Chinese opera, with its rich history and variety, is best represented by Peking, Kunqu, and Cantonese opera. This evening features expert commentary and live performances, offering a rare and vivid cultural journey.

Kunqu Opera

Zhang discusses Kunqu’s classics such as The Peony Pavilion and The Palace of Eternal Life, while also reflecting on modern interpretations including AI integrations.

Cantonese Opera

Performance of Zhaojun Going Abroad by Guo Fengnu, heir to the “Hung” School, followed by Dr. Yu’s analysis of performance and musical techniques in Cantonese opera: singing, acting, reciting, martial arts, and instrumentals.

Peking Opera

Han explores the legacy of the “Four Great Dan Actors,” the aesthetic of abstraction in Chinese opera, and the integration of Eastern and Western influences in Peking Opera.
