【Event Review】
Building upon the immense success and full-house turnout of the inaugural festival, “The 2nd Hong Kong Libraries & Chamber of Young Snow Culture Festival,” jointly presented by the University of Hong Kong Libraries and the Chamber of Young Snow, grandly commenced on July 4, 2026 (Saturday) at the Main Library (2/F), The University of Hong Kong.
Under the core theme of “The Cultural Continuum in Hong Kong,” this year’s festival serves as a vital bridge between the past and the future, shedding light on Hong Kong’s distinctive role in the inheritance and modern transformation of Chinese art during the twentieth century. As the highlight of the festival, the opening ceremony of the exhibition “Confluence of Ink and Legacy: Southbound Masters in Hong Kong” and its first academic seminar took place concurrently. The venue was packed to capacity, attracting a large crowd of citizens, art enthusiasts, and cultural patrons who gathered to immerse themselves in the profound beauty of Chinese cultural heritage.
The Festival was grandly initiated with the invaluable support and inspiring speeches delivered by three officiating guests: Mrs. Cherry Tse Ling Kit Ching, Executive Vice-President (Administration & Finance) of HKU; Dr. Li Shi Cheng, Founder of the Chamber of Young Snow ; and Ms. Flora Ng, Chief Information Officer and University Librarian of HKU. Their remarks profoundly articulated the contemporary significance of cultural inheritance in Hong Kong. Following the ceremony, the first opening seminar was held, where Dr. Li Shi Cheng shared with the audience the legendary artistic realm of Mr. Ding Yanyong, widely acclaimed as the “Matisse of the East”. The talk offered an accessible yet profound exploration of how Mr. Ding seamlessly integrated Western techniques to masterfully interpret the depth of traditional Chinese ink painting—a practice that perfectly resonates with the Chamber of Young Snow’s philosophy of “Perfect Harmony in East and West, No Border in Arts and Culture.” In a room filled with esteemed guests, all present witnessed the enduring spirit and cultural confidence of Chinese artistic traditions in Hong Kong through the fluid strokes of brush and ink.
