About Chamber of Young Snow
Chamber of Young Snow is a non‑governmental organisation founded in 2016 by Dr. Li Shi Cheng (“Dr. Li“). Its aim is to promote cultural exchange between China and the West. In 2005 Dr. Li also founded the Buddhist Lodge of Laity to introduce Buddhism and the practice of Dharma to the people of Hong Kong.
Dr. Li is passionate about Chinese art and culture and is fully committed to its development. Chamber of Young Snow not only promotes culture and collects Chinese artworks—from the Han dynasty to the present—but also funds institutions such as Peking University, the University of Hong Kong and Lingnan University to support cultural research and education.
Dr. Li hosts two programmes on Hong Kong’s Metro Finance Radio—‘Conversations on Literature and Arts’ and ‘Flavors of Life’ — which together attract hundreds of thousands of listeners. Through exhibitions, workshops, lectures and performances, the Chamber of Young Snow engages young people and the wider community, with a special focus on youth development and encouraging exploration of diverse cultural art forms.

Radio Program: Conversations on Literature and Arts
Broadcast every Saturday at 4:30 PM on Metro Finance Radio during the ‘Reading City’ segment.
• Hosted by Audrey Yip and Dr. Li, the program takes listeners on an auditory journey along the Avenue of Arts, exploring culture around the world.
• The series features episodes on subjects such as Dunhuang culture, lacquerware appreciation, calligraphy, Japanese Noh theatre, Impressionist painters like Renoir and Cézanne, and classic Chinese literature such as Dream of the Red Chamber. It delves into art history, traditional Chinese painting, poetry, and cultural heritage, offering insights into both Eastern and Western artistic traditions and serving as a valuable resource for anyone interested in fine arts and cultural discourse.

Art Exhibition Hall
The Chamber of Young Snow Art Exhibition Hall officially opened on 30 October 2023 at Lingnan University. Its purpose is to promote the appreciation and academic study of Chinese art and to foster inter‑generational and cross‑cultural dialogue through curated exhibitions and educational activities. Through curatorial projects and interactive programmes, the hall explores traditional Chinese art as creative heritage and strives to build a ‘Museum Commons’ that serves diverse communities. “Sensing Things” Special Exhibition (Exhibition Period: June to November 2024)
The exhibition features approximately 30 exquisite Chinese paintings and ceramics spanning from the Song Dynasty to the 20th century, carefully selected from the private collection of The Chamber of Young Snow and loaned treasures. It aims to showcase the accumulated meaning and emotions of ancient Chinese art, offering inspiration and motivation for contemporary society and life, while highlighting the philosophy, values, and worldview of Chinese artists across different periods. A key exhibit is the 1939 work Qujiang Pond Pavilion by Li Yanshan, a prominent figure in the modern Guangdong painting circle. This piece, inspired by the Yuan Dynasty landscape tradition and the charm of Lingnan garden paintings, was created by a Qing Dynasty orthodox painter and has been displayed in Beijing, Taiwan, and the Hong Kong Museum of Art.
“Shine and Shade, Earth and Wood: The Story of Everyday Porcelain and Lacquer” Special Exhibition (Exhibition Period: Feb 18 – Dec 2, 2025)
The exhibition is divided into two major themes: “Shine” and “Shade “, which explore the everyday cultural practices surrounding lacquerware and porcelain, as well as their intertwined historical development. Beginning with a brief history of the evolution of lacquerware and porcelain, the exhibition showcases artifacts from the Tang Dynasty in the seventh century to the early twentieth century during the Qing Dynasty. These artifacts encompass various aspects of life, including: Dining, Literati appreciation, Incense burning, Starting from the basic chemical properties of the materials, the exhibition further introduces the corresponding production techniques and modes of production, which are essential in shaping cultural life. Through this exhibition, we aim to guide visitors into the contexts of ancient lacquerware and porcelain production and usage, fostering an understanding of the connections between ancient and modern life, and encouraging a deeper reflection on the familiar aspects of daily existence.
“Print and Preservation: Special Exhibition of the Exhortations to Promote Good Deeds by Empress Renxiao of the Great Ming” (Exhibition Period: May 8 – December 2, 2025)
The Art Exhibition Hall of Lingnan University proudly presents a new thematic exhibition titled “Print and Preservation: Special Exhibition of the Exhortations to Promote Good Deeds by Empress Renxiao of the Great Ming” This exhibition features the “the Exhortations to Promote Good Deeds” (《勸善書》), a carved edition from the third year of the Yongle period, compiled by Empress Renxiao of the Ming Dynasty. This collection is being displayed to the public for the first time and showcases how the Ming court utilized the compilation of moral education books to strengthen its authority. The special exhibition will also distribute a picture book, “Chronicles of the Ming Dynasty Across Time 大明穿越時空記),” co-produced by Hong Kong artist Lin Jian-cai, free of charge during designated event periods. The exhibition is open to the public for free from May 8 – December 2, 2025.

Chinese Culture and Arts Lectures
The Art Exhibition Hall organises lectures that transmit and enrich traditional cultural arts, disseminate cultural knowledge and foster communication among cultural enthusiasts. These lectures aim to improve artistic literacy, deepen understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture and contribute to the flourishing of Chinese cultural arts. More than ten lectures have been held in recent years.

Social Media Promotion of Chinese Culture
The Art Exhibition Hall uses major social‑media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram to promote Chinese culture and art. It regularly highlights local and national exhibitions to boost public interest in Chinese art, deepening appreciation of China’s rich cultural heritage and reaffirming its value.

We regularly organise Chinese art‑exhibition events to promote Chinese culture and enhance public understanding of Greater Chinese cultural arts. We collaborate with university campuses and partner with cultural groups in mainland China to host and promote a variety of exhibitions.
