「夢幻敦煌」壓軸學術講座:重現敦煌之美

The University of Hong Kong Libraries and Chamber of Young Snow Cultural Festival invite all Dunhuang art enthusiasts, cultural researchers, and the general public to join our grand academic lecture, “Dreamlike Dunhuang,” and explore the timeless charm and significance of Dunhuang art.

We are honoured to host two distinguished speakers at this event:

Session 1:

  • Speaker: Dr. Zhang Yuanlin
    (Deputy Director, Dunhuang Academy; President, Gansu Dunhuang Studies Society; Chair Professor, Lanzhou University)
  • Topic: “Persian and West Asian Influences in the Ceiling Murals of Mogao Cave 249: A Study of Dunhuang Art”
  • Dr. Zhang will provide groundbreaking insights into how Persian and West Asian art influenced the ceiling murals of Mogao Cave 249, breaking traditional scholarly perspectives. His lecture will highlight the unique cultural blend of Daoist deities and Buddhist ideas, as well as the deep imprints of Silk Road exchanges during the Northern and Western Wei Dynasties (525–545 CE).

Session 2:

  • Speaker: Dr. Li Shi Cheng
    (Chamber of Young Snow)
  • Topic: “Dunhuang Murals from the Perspective of Ancient and Modern Western Aesthetics”
  • Dr. Li will deliver the lecture in English, analysing Dunhuang murals through both ancient and contemporary Western aesthetic lenses. With Dunhuang’s legacy as the pinnacle of East-West cultural exchange, this talk aims to deepen Western audiences’ appreciation of Dunhuang’s artistic values and further Chamber of Young Snow’s vision of “Cultural Exchange Without Borders”.
